The Boomtown Rats - Citizens Of Boomtown

10 Fakten zum neuen Album von The Boomtown Rats:

Zwischen „In The Long Grass“ (1984) und „Citizens Of Boomtown“ lagen 430 Monate.

Oder ihren größten Hit „I Don’t Like Mondays“ rund 282 700 800 mal.

Back to Boomtown: Classic Rats Hits“ - jedoch ohne neue Titel.

5. Erstmals saß kein prominenter Produzent mit im Studio: Pete Briquette übernahm den Job, den zuvor bereits Peter Walsh (Pulp, Scott Walker, Simple Minds), Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex, Morrissey, Iggy Pop) oder Robert John "Mutt" Lange (Muse, Def Leppard, The Cars) inne hatten.

8. Am gleichen Tag ist mit „Tales of Boomtown Glory“ ein Buch von Bob Geldof veröffentlicht worden: Tales of Boomtown Glory is a collection of the complete lyrics from Bob Geldof’s Boomtown Rats and solo albums, accompanied by an introduction and 25 song stories written by Geldof, and exclusive scans from his notebooks over the years. The stories provide a witty and honest account of the background, inspiration and context of the songs.

It has nostalgic nods to their first musical loves, bits that nod back to the first records they made, plenty of vim and spark but without the fuel that was first ignited by that spark. And, of course, it has toe-curling attempts to be current, just in case there really are disenfranchised kids listening.

For his part, Geldof swaggers and snarls with plenty of charisma and acerbic wit while the group's strong vocal presence recalls the Rats of old. There is some good material here and they've certainly taken their reunion record somewhere unexpected, but as a whole, Citizens is a bit of an inconsistent mess.
