The title of the opening track, Death Is Not The End, is both poignant and optimistic, a theme that runs throughout the album as a whole. With the lyrical content their most intimate to date, the group have somehow weaved this intimacy into Arena-filling anthems that are so joyous and uplifting. The phenomenal album highlight We Are It is destined to be their biggest radio hit in a very long time. However, there is something to be said for how Embrace deliver a killer ballad. With a career that has seen them soar to the upper echelons of the charts with some of the most tender indie pop ballads ever, How To Be A Person Like Other People delivers their most glorious yet - the simply sensational Rubble. Of almost equal note is The Terms Of My Surrender. How To Be A Person Like Other People is a bold, striking, compelling and emotional listen that showcases the best of the Bailiff Bridge band.

Rock Eupora - Pick At The Scab
"Always effervescent, superbly sour-sweet and whistle-worthy...Waller becomes his most authentic self....it’s a big achievement."(Nashville Scene)"Emotive lyricism, lush arrangements, and soulful confessions...[Pick At The Scab] captures Waller’s trademark euphoric melodies and joyous energy. Yet, it also feels like an evolution of his sound."(Under The Radar)"The Mississippi-raised, Nashville-based artist makes a unique blend of gritty, self-produced rock and shimmering pop."(The FADER)

Sheafs - A Happy Medium
En Route Distress recalls The Smiths, and the song’s jaunty melancholy is more than a little reminiscent of This Charming Man. Monotonal Living is just as addictive and smart, as it begins with spiky guitars and turns itself inside out with a synth-driven middle section. The boldly romantic Cycles is very nearly as good, while Vacancy is sweet and soaring. A big part of SHEAFS appeal is hearing them pack so many musical and lyrical ideas into songs that rarely pass the three-and-a-half-minute mark, like the wonderfully agile For Now, Concede and Millennial. On the other hand, Losing All Inhibitions, a bittersweet, largely spoken word ballad propelled by chilly drum machines and synths, is a standout because it’s so expansive. A Happy Medium is a remarkably fresh-sounding debut album, with more than enough personality to transcend its retro leanings.
As well as proving they can nail an absolute explosion of a track, on “A Happy Medium” the SHEAFS prove they are able to create more relaxed and slow-paced tracks that still sound undeniably like them. On the track, “For Now” the laidback, echoing guitars and vocals almost evoke a dreampop and shoegaze influence, but still with the forceful energy and memorably unique guitar chord patterns of the SHEAFS shining through. To be able to explore their music through different sonic lenses and still have their distinctive sound there at this level in the bands career is highly impressive and shows the SHEAFS should have no problems creating the diversity of sound needed to stay relevant over the years.“A Happy Medium” is an album that ticks all the boxes. It proves that as a band the SHEAFS have immense skill as well as their own remarkable style. It combines the raw and bold with the relatable and professional and is filled with charismatic dynamism that will ensure that if the SHEAFS keep up at this level their success as a band will soar.(RGM)

Breathless - See Those Colours Fly
But See Those Colours Fly is also an album of contrasts, an album of perfect tiny details stitched to create the bigger picture, its resounding, melancholic tapestry anchored by expert songcraft. It is, as Kramer says, excruciatingly beautiful. Let it massage your soul.
‘See Those Colours Fly’, then, is an exercise in both expanse and concision, the group experimenting with and jamming around song structures in rehearsal and then pairing the tracks back in recording and post-production. The result is perhaps the most perfectly distilled album of the group’s career.

Sarah Weiß - 12 Months Of Flying

Acua - Is There More Past Or More Future
"Ghost train" leitet die abstraktere Albummitte ein, Patrick Braun fühlt sich "too deaf to feel any pain".

Pale Waves - Unwanted
It’s the pacier moments that make up the bulk of the highlights, but there are other areas of interest. Unwanted seems determined to be lots of different things to different people, ticking boxes left, right and centre in a way that seems ambitious rather than cynical, while mostly delivering on its multitude of promises. Soul-baring ballads The Hard Way and Without You reveal the breadth of their pop ambitions and the larger venues they’re eyeing for the future. Big spaces call for big songs, though, and big songs call for big sentiments, which Unwanted has plenty of, exploring notions of self-acceptance, loss, betrayal and much more. And while that lyricism may sometimes be a little too broad in its strokes to pierce more weathered hearts, it’s impossible not to be won over by singer Heather Baron-Gracie’s charisma and delivery. There’s no doubt that Unwanted is an important record for Pale Waves, though in pivoting to a more alt-rock sound, the band may open themselves up to accusations of musical opportunism from a discerning audience who can smell fakery a mile off. Sampling the fruits of this new chapter, however, suggests Pale Waves are going to win people over. They’re doing what they love for the good of others and making hugely enjoyable music in the process. You don’t get more real than that.(Kerrang)
Called ‘Unwanted’ as a rallying cry to marginalised groups, the album is a defiant expression of darker emotions, with heartbreak inspiring fiery opening track ‘Lies’ as well as the title track, while ‘You’re So Vain’ calls out a narcissistic partner, the poignant ‘Numb’ explores mental health struggles, and ‘Reasons To Live’ charts rising up from rock bottom. Leaning more into the pop-rock sound of their previous record, ‘Unwanted’ shines in its ability to produce a pop-punk anthem your ‘00s faves wish they could’ve written. Throughout, Heather holds nothing back, with the thrashing ‘Jealousy’ summing up the album’s ethos: “I won’t pretend / And I won’t apologise.”

Erasure - Day-Glo (Based On A True Story)
The opening track "Based On A True Story" is a marvellous start to the album, an Erasure-like track that builds and builds, crammed with dark Vince synth sounds. Straightaway, you know that you are in for a different Erasure here. It's them, but there's something else going on. "Bop Beat" follows, reminiscent of The Neon, with Andy's voice sampled and manipulated. It's interesting hearing Andy in this new form, and it really works."Pin-Prick", one of a few songs on here with a title that brings Vince and Martin Gore's VCMG project to mind, is one of the album's highlights, with its early Vince Clarke era sounds and Andy's wordless singing melting together perfectly. "The Conman" recalls mid to late 80's era Erasure B-sides and is notable for being the first point in the album where we hear actual vocals from Andy. "Now" is another standout track that can be added to any list of great Erasure songs. Listening to it, I thought of Yazoo's "I Before E Except After C", albeit "Now" doesn't sound as ominous as that song. It's a lovely track and one that could easily be turned into a standard song, but why would anyone want to do that? "Inside Out" is next; with it, we return to the earlier, darker feel of the album. The following two songs are much more Erasure-like in that they feature full vocals from Andy. Both "Harbour Of My Heart" and "3 Strikes And You're Out" could easily have featured on The Neon, and they are the closest you get to that album on here, perhaps two songs reworked by Vince as opposed to being new experiments with elements from the album. The closing two tracks, "The Shape Of Things" and "The End", are wonderful, with "The End" a gorgeous end to what has been a bold, innovative and hugely enjoyable album.Day-Glo (Based On A True Story) is a reminder that Erasure has always been much more than the titans of synthpop they are justifiably recognised as. Dig into their albums, and you will find many different versions of the band, each one a real treat. This album shows that even when they go off-road and experiment, they still produce music capable of surprising and delighting you. Long may this period of productivity carry on.(XS NOIZE)

DC Gore - All These Things
This is a good album to drive to, the track listing feels well thought out and you don’t find yourself impulsively reaching for the skip button. The songs are on the lengthy side but they are structured in a way that doesn’t make them feel boring or overstretched. All These Things is one of those records where you’re fifteen minutes deep and unsure if it's the first song you’ve been listening to the entire time, it's a good thing. The album feels like its nine mini sonic journeys umbrella’d under an even bigger adventure. The juxtaposition of the crafty lyrics and the dancey beats surprisingly compliment each other. DC Gore’s lyrical storytelling is similar to that of Alex Cameron, it’s effortless but is clearly deliberate and well articulated. All These Things appeals to fans of Soft Hair, Pet Shop Boys, Kirin J Callinan and Eurovision.
Gore’s blend of warm, at times euphoric synthpop and live instrumentation owes much to Pet Shop Boys (the melody of the title track on his debut album echoes that of Rent), a touchstone for him since he heard Discography as a child. His upbringing in an unspecified M25 dormitory town, meanwhile, has led to a fascination with suburbia (particularly “all the sort of weird shit that happens there with people just living to procreate”, he has said). This has informed his lyrics and earned Gore comparisons to Jarvis Cocker. Elsewhere, as on I Like You, he can be as archly funny as Stephin Merritt. He might have come late to songwriting, but he’s making up for that now.

Panda Bear & Sonic Boom - Reset
Apparently influenced by listening to Sonic Boom’s collection of Fifties and Sixties American doo-wop and rock’n’roll albums for the first time in years, after he finally transported them to his new home. The two long-term friends and collaborators have recorded Reset together, an album which frequently seems to imagine a Joe Meek-produced Everly Brothers backed by the Beach Boys while under the influence of some particularly potent brain spanglers. Uplifting and hip-swinging summer vibes back vocal harmonies that often camouflage something considerably darker, with strange Sixties synthesizer sounds from “Getting’ to the Point”, with its riff lifted from Eddie Cochran’s “Three Steps to Heaven” through to the electronic weirdery of “Everything’s Been leading to This”.Along the way, Panda Bear and Sonic Boom take on psychedelic surf pop in “Danger”, Lovin’ Spoonful-like sunny and bouncy vibes on “Edge of the Edge” and the wilful hypnotic experimentation of “In My Body” and “Whirlpool”. In fact, Reset is resolutely relaxed and gentle but steers well clear of the mainstream, exuding a distinctly narcotic wooziness, yet an upbeat one with a smile on its face. However, like the Beach Boys before them, Panda Bear and Sonic Boom use catchy melodies to communicate something not entirely wholesome but altogether more disorientating to those who are paying attention.
