London Grammar - Truth Is A Beautiful Thing

10 Fakten zum neuen Album von London Grammar:

1. Fast vier Jahre arbeiteten Hannah Reid, Dot Major und Dan Rothman an ihrem Debütalbum „If You Wait“ (2013), vier weitere Jahren gingen bis zur neuen Platte „Truth Is A Beautiful Thing“ ins Land.

2. Die Kritiker sind nicht so begeistert (67/100 bei Metacritic) wie beim Vorgänger (75/100).

Though a long time coming, it seems that not rushing a follow-up has allowed London Grammar to craft a record that’s hauntingly stark, yet staggeringly beautiful, possessing a rich musicality that even now, is mature beyond the band’s young years.(DIY Magazine)

Yet on the whole, London Grammar have matured to give an album of creative and intelligent composition, with swelling melodies and vocals that give a genuine emotional payoff. There are moments of heart-stopping beauty throughout, as well as a newfound optimism that propels the songs to swelling heights.(Drowned In Sound)

The manner in which they present their material often leans too heavily on the tried-and-tested tastemakers of years past, however, dulling and dampening their impact. While compelling, the trio did not exactly sound wildly original when they first emerged in 2013; in 2017, it is even harder to find a context for their work. London Grammar’s music remains gorgeous, but the band too often limits themselves with their own conservatism.(PopMatters)

3. In den europäischen Charts konnte „Truth Is A Beautiful Thing“ dennoch fast überall besser abschneiden als „If You Wait“: In Deutschland kam das Album auf Platz 9, das Debüt nur auf 34, in England gelang eine Verbesserung um einen Platz und führte zum ersten Nummer-Eins-Album der Band.

4. Zumindest in England lässt sich dies auch an den verkauften Einheiten in der ersten Woche ablesen: 33.130 mal ging das Debüt über den Ladentisch, 43.403 mal der Nachfolger.

5. Die 11 Titel von „Truth Is A Beautiful Thing“, das über das bandeigene Label Metal & Dust in Zusammenarbeit mit Ministry Of Sound erschienen ist, laufen 51:48 Minuten. Die Deluxe Edition bietet weitere 27:25 Minuten Dank drei zusätzlicher Songs („What A Day“, „Different Breeds“ und „Control“), einem Remix („May The Best“), zwei Demos („Trials“, „Rooting For You“) und einer Cover-Version („Bitter Sweet Symphony“ von The Verve).

6. Den Großteil der Songs produzierten Paul Epworth (Coldplay, Florence And The Machine, Bloc Party) bzw. Greg Kurstin (Adele, Pink). Bei „Big Picture“ hatte auch Jon Hopkins seine Finger im Spiel.

7. Die Singles kamen an die Erfolge von „Strong“ oder „Wasting My Young Years“ aus dem Jahr 2013 nicht heran: „Rooting For You“ (#58 im Vereinigten Königreich), „Big Picture“ (#73) und „Oh Woman Oh Man“ (#91) blieben in unteren Chart-Regionen, während sich der Titelsong gar nicht platzieren konnte.

8. Ungewöhnlich: Im Video zu „Rooting For You“ werden die ersten 135 Sekunden a capella dargeboten.

28.11.17 Hamburg, Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt
08.12.17 Stuttgart, Liederhalle Hegelsaal
09.12.17 München Tonhalle
