Garbage sind euch nicht mehr hip und modern genug und die Pale Waves zu popig? Dann könnten Black Honey etwas für euch sein!
Ein Geheimtipp ist das Quartett aus Brighton in seiner Heimat nicht mehr, denn bereits das Debütalbum „Black Honey“ konnte 2018 Platz 33 der UK Charts erreichen und drei Jahre später ging es mit „Written & Directed“ bereits in die Top Ten (#7).
Mittlerweile haben Izzy Phillips (Gesang, Gitarre), Chris Ostler (Gitarre, Synthesizer), Tommy Taylor (Bass) und Alex Woodward (Schlagzeug) die 12 Songs für ihr drittes Album fertiggestellt. Dieses trägt den Titel „A Fistful Of Peaches“ und ist als CD, Kassette und LP (peach coloured Vinyl, red and orange Vinyl, mural Picture Disc, Dart Board Picture Disc, Peach Picture Disc) erhältlich.
Starting off as they mean to go on, and in their usual RIOT GRRRL fashion, album opener “Charlie Bronson” acts as a musical middle finger to the stereotypes around women not being 'allowed' to be angry due to the connotations with being 'unfeminine'. Through the track, Phillips explores releasing her anger in therapy and coming to terms with the fact that you’re allowed to divulge going 'off the rails', with lyrics such as “Big smile just like Harley Quinn” and “Sign a postcard from my padded cell.”Similarly, exploring the same vein of mental health (alongside “Rockbottom”), “Out Of My Mind” discusses the experiences of dissociation and feelings of vulnerability, where its becoming quickly clear that A Fistful Of Peaches is an homage to being open about your struggles and steeped in self-reflection.Stepping back from the present, “Up Against It” is a heavily emotional look-back on childhood. Backed by emotion-fuelled basslines, the lead singers’ vocals deliver heartfelt lyrics in an ode to her younger self: “Give yourself a break kid.” Whereas, sitting on the other end of the genre-spectrum, “Weirdos” enlists the aid of insistent drums and reverbed vocals to deliver on of the punchiest tracks on the album – a “song for the weirdos.”
