Hinter Burning Codes steckt der aus Belfast stammende Singer/Songwriter Paul Archer. Sein Bruder Iain, der ihn auf diesem Album unterstützt, zählt zum Umfeld von Snow Patrol und The Reindeer Section. "Rivers Of Hope" wird auf dem Dubliner Indiecater Label veröffentlicht und ist das dritte Album dieses Projektes in eben so vielen Jahren. In dessen Entstehung waren auch Mitglieder von Snow Patrol und Athlete involviert, womit der musikalische Rahmen schon recht gut abgesteckt wäre.
Paul Archer besticht durch seine soulige, entspannte Stimme, die auch bereits auf 5 Songs von Snow Patrols "Eyes Open" zu hören war, versucht nicht krampfhaft die genannten Bands zu kopieren und legt ein vor allem in der ersten Hälfte ("We Are Like Gold", "Rivers Of Hope") überzeugendes Album vor.

Burning Codes is the recording alias of Belfast songsmith Paul Archer, a regular collaborator with the Snow Patrol collective. His latest release, Rivers of Hope, is an exceptionally polished listen, smooth around the edges like the trim on a vintage car; not dull, but sleek and impassioned. The hushed, harmonised vocals on ‘Our One Desire’ resonate like Neil Young’s on After The Gold Rush, mixing in without a hitch from the tense, terse ‘Switch’, the absolute standout track. ‘Only Gone’ kicks in with a familiar bass anchor and gels into something quite accomplished that grows in the part of the brain reserved for catchiness. These are emotionally strong songs that breathe intimacy, dictate their own space and lift you out of yours.
