10 Fakten zum neuen Album von Bastille:

1. 42 Monate ließen Bastille seit der Veröffentlichung ihres Debütalbums "Bad Blood" verstreichen. 

2. Viel Zeit, in der auch viele neue Songs komponiert werden konnten: "Wild World" bietet deren 14 und läuft 49 Minuten. Fans haben die Wahl zwischen der regulären CD, der Deluxe Edition CD und der Doppel-LP im Aufklapp-Cover mit 16-seitigem Booklet.

3. Die Deluxe Version lohnt sich, da mit "Way Beyond", "Oil On Canvas", "Campus", "Shame" und "The Anchor" gleich fünf weitere Songs im Angebot sind. In den USA gibt es bei Target eine weitere Version, die zusätzlich "Final Hour" und "Send Them Off!" in einer alternativen Version (Bunker Sessions) beinhaltet.

4. Das ultimative Fan-Paket stellt jedoch die Limited Edition Collectors Edition dar: neben den Deluxe CD- und LP-Versionen gibt es für 90,- € noch eine DVD, Postkarten, zwei Gitarren Plektren, einen handschriftlichen Text und das Plattencover als Poster. 

5. Wie der Vorgänger "Bad Blood" wurde auch "Wild World" im kleinen Londoner Kellerstudio von Sänger und Songwriter Dan Smith aufgenommen. Das "Never change a winning Team"-Motto schloss auch den Produzenten, Mark Crew, mit ein. Neu sind jedoch die Filmzitate, die in Form von Samples in die Songs eingebaut wurden. 

6. Nicht auf dem Album enthalten ist "Overload", eine Coverversion von den Sugababes, die nur auf dem Soundtrack zu "Kill Your Friends" zu finden ist. Auch "Hangin'", das im Spiel "FIFA 16" zu hören ist, hat es auf keine Version von "Wild World" geschafft.

7. Als erste Single wurde "Good Grief" ausgewählt, das mit einem 13. Platz im Vereinigten Königreich den großen Erfolg der Nummer 2-Singles "Pompeii" und "Of The Night" nicht wiederholen konnte. In Deutschland kam der Song auf Platz 58.

8. "Fake It" und "Send Them Off!" werden wohl die beiden folgenden Singles sein. 

9. "Wild World" in der Plattenkritik: Metacritic registriert derzeit 7 Kritiken und errechnet den Bewertungsdurchschnitt mit 77/100. Der Vorgänger "Bad Blood" kam nur auf 58/100.

There are pop culture references littered throughout, too. ‘Four Walls (The Ballad Of Perry Smith)’ is inspired by one of the subjects of Truman Capote’s 1966 true-crime bestseller In Cold Blood. ‘Send Them Off’ and ‘Good Grief’ scrape quotes from cult ’70s and ’80s sci-fi films, with Smith’s storytelling on the former drawing from sources as far and wide as The Exorcist and Othello.

Reflective ballads flow into ’90s-vibes dance tracks and back around again, and the album features strings, horns, keys and the introduction of guitars – a new thing “simply because I couldn’t play guitar before”, says Smith. What unites it all is a belt-it-out chorus on every single track.

Sure, Bastille are a bit like that dude at school who flits between social groups. He likes a bit of hip-hop, a few indie tunes, and badgers the DJ for ’90s R&B when he’s p*ssed. But you know what, that guy’s mates with everyone and more fun to hang out with than the surly cool kid in the corner. As such, ‘Wild World’ is a triumphant pop record: unflinching in its ability to rouse listeners and unapologetic in its quest for a Number One.

Opener ‘Good Grief’ sets the tone brilliantly, its pomp and grandeur juxtaposed perfectly with Dan Smith’s dark-tinged tale of coping with life after death. ‘The Currents’ is a poignant declaration of our political climate and disbelief at the world we live in (“Oh my god, I can’t quite believe my ears”) while ‘Warmth’ counts the places we seek comfort, when the everyday horrors of modern life seem to creep too close.

Musically, the band sound bolder and more ambitious, yet their core songwriting talents remain at the heart of each song. While ‘Power’ begins with an infectious groove, it explodes into life with guitar riffs before ‘Two Evils’, a stark but gorgeous number, which brings a real cinematic feel to the midpoint of the record. It’s a brave move, but one that more than pays off.

After the tremendous success of debut ‘Bad Blood’, it’s getting harder to deny that Bastille are anything but stadium-bothering pop superstars. But with this second album, they’re still offering an exciting, engaging alternative to pure chart pop, and they do it so bloody well.
