Snow Patrol - Wildness

10 Fakten zum neuen Album von Snow Patrol:

5. Beide Versionen enthalten 5 Songs der Platte als Bonus Tracks („Life On Earth“, „Don’t Give In“, „Heal Me“, „What If This Is All The Love You Ever Get?“ und „Soon“) in „stripped back and re-orchestrated recordings“.

7. Als weitere Singles wählten Snow Patrol „Life On Earth“, „What If This Is All The Love You Ever Get?“ und „Empress“ aus. Charterfolge? Fehlanzeige.

8. Seit „Final Straw“ (2003) sitz Garrett „Jacknife“ Lee (U2, R.E.M., The Killers, Robbie Williams, Bloc Party) bei allen Alben von Snow Patrol auf dem Produzentensessel. So auch bei „Wildness“.

Overall, Wildness is a really great comeback record. There are a few dud tracks in there, especially in the first half of the album, but these are more than compensated for by the excellence of the remainder of the record. Snow Patrol sticks to their tried and tested formula quite closely, and it would’ve been good to have seen them deviate from the plan a little more, as songs such as ‘Dark Switch’ show what else they could turn their hand to. But looking widely, it’s a very listenable and enjoyable piece of work.

The gift that Snow Patrol have certainly hasn’t disappeared. Every track holds a well-crafted weight, just as their early material did. Yet it lacks something this time round. It’s as though you’ve heard most of these songs before, somewhere else. By the time the finale of Life And Death comes around, there’s a sense of completion, like you’ve survived an experience, one you’ve partially enjoyed, but it’s very hard to want to go back and repeat it.
If you love Snow Patrol, Wildness will please. But while it has moments that can be thoroughly enjoyed in increments, if you’re expecting developments – especially given the seven-year gap between released – then you’re out of luck.

First single "Don't Give In" sounds less like Coldplay and more like the Americana rock of Philadelphia band The War on Drugs, although not quite as stirring. "Wild Horses," while a good song, only hints at the glory years. Meanwhile, "Empress" and "A Dark Switch" are the only two tracks that capture past magic with elements that are immediately fetching, some slick bass lines, moody passages, and smoldering guitars. But the album as a whole is frustratingly disappointing for a band with so much talent and past successes.
