David Kitt - The Nightsaver

Seit Volker hier nicht mehr wirklich aktiv ist, gehen solche Perlen Mitunter verloren: David Kitt veröffentlichte bereits im März sein sechstes Album „The Nightsaver“. Das Album wurde von Kitt nahezu im Alleingang zu Hause aufgenommen, abgemischt, produziert und schließlich über das eigene Label Gold Spillin' Records und seine Homepage veröffentlicht.
Nachdem mich die beiden letzten Alben nicht vollends überzeugen konnten, ist „The Nightsaver“ wieder eine positive Überraschung. Erneut bietet Kitt eine Verbindung aus Folk und Pop mit elektronischen Sounds (teilweise sehr 80er mäßig, wie in den wenig überzeugenden "A Real Fire" oder "Don't Wake Me Up") und Beats und diesmal sitzen auch wieder die Melodien, wie "Move It On", "Beat A Retreat" und "Learning How To Say Goodbye" beweisen.

Der aus Dublin stammende Ire nennt selbst folgende Einflüsse:

Without any of the baggage of collaboration or record company influence he allowed his natural influences to filter through this collection of, what are essentially, concise songs. The free-flowing nuances of disco, Kraftwerk, 90’s house music, hip-hop of all eras and the evolving legacy of crafted synth-pop from Hall & Oates to Junior Boys can be heard throughout.

Eighty-hour weeks apparently went into the 'Nightsaver', and that feeling of bunkered creativity comes to mind as you're charmed by every track.
Managing to make a record which has parts you want to listen to alone and others you want to experience on a dancefloor, Kitt's mixing of acoustic guitars and 1980s keyboard thrills works every time.
It's now nine years (yikes) since Kitt released his debut. If you've lost track of him over that time, this is where to get re-introduced. And if you've heard the name but not the music, this is a great place to start.
