Wenn man beim aktuellen Album von Synne Sanden von experimenteller Popmusik spricht, dann ist damit gemeint, dass die Norwegerin auf ähnlichen Pfaden wandelt wie ihre Landsfrau Susanne Sundfør. Der Klang von "In Between Sparks", ihrem dritten Album, wird von düsteren Synthesizern-Klängen geprägt, zu denen sich jedoch immer wieder akustische Instrumente, wie Schlagzeug, Bass und Gitarre, gesellen und die unterkühlte Atmosphäre brechen.
Auf ihren poppigen Singles, wie "The Pilot", klingt Synne Sanden ein wenig nach Emiliana Torrini in ihrer "Love In The Time Of Science"-Zeit, "Black Pearls" lässt in seiner Trip Hopigkeit an Portishead denken und den klaren Gesang im Refrain in ungewohnte Höhen schnellen. "Sweet Electricity" ist der ungewöhnlichste, weil experimentellste Song des Albums und "Boomerang" mit seinen warmen Orgelklängen, könnte der Pophit sein, den Anna von Hausswolff niemals schreiben wird.
Im Video zum Titelsong ihres dritten Albums kann man bereits erahnen, dass sich "In Between Sparks" thematisch um das Thema Liebe dreht und dass es manchmal sinnvoll sein kann, sich vor dem Shooting des Plattencovers seiner Kleidung zu entledigen:

Nevertheless this album with all it’s facets should contemplate as one creation and a trip to all aspects and steps of love, where you will accompany by the charming voice of Synne, that you would believe everything!
