Wessen musikalisches Kind könnte Somebody’s Child sein? Da fallen einem direkt Sam Fender und The Killers als potenzielle Elternteile ein. Also energetischer, tanzbarer und eingängiger Indierock. Gut, dass das Kind noch am liebsten mit der Gitarre spielt und Synthesizer sowie Keyboards noch nicht für sich entdeckt hat. 

Hinter Somebody’s Child steckt der Ire Cian Godfrey, der nach drei EPs nun sein selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum veröffentlicht hat. „Somebody’s Child“ wurde von Mikko Gordon (Arcade Fire, Island, Idles, Gaz Coombes, Thom Yorke) produziert und via Frenchkiss Records als CD und LP (black und red Vinyl) veröffentlicht.

Whether it’s a track such as ‘Sell Out’ that brings the catchy and smooth guitar riffs into any listener’s ears or if it is the honest lyricism in ‘I Need Ya’, there is a track for everyone. No matter what they are going through.

One track that stands out the most is ‘Broken Record’. Forget the banging drums and beautiful guitar feelings for a moment. This is a track that truly gets the feeling of being lost in this world. It’s four minutes of understanding the ups and downs of relationships and how important it is to get back up while life is kicking you down.

As the album comes to a close, it begins to feel like the listener is at a cafe or bar with a friend as they discuss everything life has to offer. ‘How Long?’ and others show off the gentle instruments and soft vocals that allow anyone to get an image of live music, a favourite drink of a listener, and being with their friends. 

That’s the feeling from this album. Serious conversations in fun and weird places that allow listeners and readers alike to feel safe discussing everything. The self-titled album is truly something special.
