„Aus welchem Grund auch immer hat mich das Cover auf eine etwas kantigere Platte hoffen lassen.“ Dies sagte Ingo, als er für das Album „Shame“ 6,5 Punkte an das englische Duo IDER vergab. 

Möglicherweise entspricht dieses britische, weibliche Duo mehr seinen Erwartungen, auch wenn das Plattencover von „Wet Leg“ nicht allzu wild anmutet. 

Wet Leg sind die von der Isle of Wight in Südengland stammenden Rhian Teasdale und Hester Chambers, die bereits mit ihrer Debütsingle „Chaise Longue“ für Furore sorgten: Bei Spotify nähert sich der Song 13 Millionen Streams, auf YouTube wurde das dazugehörige bereits 3,5 Millionen Mal aufgerufen und in zahlreichen internationalen Bestenlisten des Jahres 2021 tauchte das Lied ebenfalls auf.

 

Der Indierock und -pop der 90er Jahre hat es dem Duo besonders angetan und so reizen Wet Leg zwischen Elastica und Shampoo alles aus, laden musikalisch zum Tanzen ein, während sie textlich das moderne Leben (Dating-Apps, Partynächte, zielloses Abhängen und durchs Handy scrollen, gesellschaftlichen Pflichten entfliehen) humorvoll aus bzw. kritisch hinter leuchten. 

Ja, auf den 12 Songs von „Wet Leg“ gibt es genug Kanten für Ingo, ausreichend Pop & Hooks für Volker und Oliver wird sowieso total begeistert sein und in seinem Platten-Schrank nach der „Trouble“-Coverversion von Carter USM suchen.

„Wet Leg“ steht am 8. April als CD, Kassette und LP (black Vinyl, clear Vinyl,  green Vinyl, translucent yellow Vinyl) in den Plattenläden.

It was during quarantine that they nailed their sound and agreed on their manifesto: “As long as you’re having fun, then everything will be alright,” they told NME. This has given them permission to experiment with various sounds that are all fed through a love of ’90s indie-pop. Listen to ‘Ur Mum’ and ‘Oh No’ and there are elements of The Breeders, Pavement, and Elastica.

This combination makes them reassuringly familiar, and yet their ability to write nagging hooks renders them genuinely exciting. These are tracks that make you want to dance, especially the disco handclaps on the infectious ‘Wet Dream’, while offering deadpan observations about modern life. “I don’t need no dating app to tell me if I look like crap,” snaps Teasdale on ‘Too Late Now’.

The duo don’t ignore the messiness or confusion of being a young adult but on their debut they distil the emotions into two-minute songs that are communal acts of joy.
