Die 20-jährige Singer/Songwriterin Eve Owen lebt in London, lernte im Alter von 7 Jahren das Geigespielen und komponierte wenige Jahre später die ersten eigenen Songs auf Gitarre und Piano.  Die Helden ihrer Kindheit waren Bob Dylan und Joan Baez.

Aaron Dessner darf vermutlich als Entdecker von Eve Owen gefeiert werden. So sorgte er dafür, dass sie auf „I Am Easy To Find“ (2019), dem letzten Album von The National, auf den Songs „Quiet Light“ und „Where Is Her Head“ zu hören war, produzierte ihr Debütalbum „Don’t Let The Ink Dry“ und stellte den Kontakt zu Gastmusikern wie dem Multi-Instrumentalisten Rob Moose (Bon Iver, Perfume Genius) und dem Pianisten Thomas Bartlett (David Byrne, St. Vincent und Father John Misty) her. Das Album entstand im Verlauf von drei Jahren, in denen die Schülerin Eve Owen ihre Sommerferien teilweise in New York mit Dessner im Long Pond Studio, einem umgebauten Bauernhaus im Hudson Valley, verbrachte.

Spannende Folkmusik, die durch sanfte Streicher, dezentes Piano und elektronische Experimente geschickt akzentuiert wird. Highlight ist vielleicht das an Mazzy Star erinnernde „So Still For You“.

While contrasting emotions and themes are revealed throughout this record, one theme does prevail and that is hope. The unbreakable hope in Owen’s delivery overcomes the feeling of loneliness and isolation, a reminder that bad days shall pass and in today’s world, this is something that we all need to be reminded of from time to time.

‘Don’t Let The Ink Dry’ is complex and rich in emotion, dazzling with every song. Owen’s talent was evident when she sang alongside The National, but her solo work is truly wonderful as she tells captivating stories through electro-folk music. Every song is a welcomed listen, with something for every mood. The singer-songwriter has mastered heartbreaking ballads like ‘For Redemption,’ but proved she can also create strong folk-pop tracks like ‘Mother.’
Eve Owen has only just started her journey, but there’s clearly a bright future ahead for the artist as her mature and accomplished album proves she’s indie music’s rising star.
