Olympia - Flaming

Olympia, eine Orakelstätte im antiken Griechenland, eine Konzerthalle in Paris, ein Gemälde von Manet, ein zweiteiliger Kinofilm von Leni Riefenstahl, die Hauptstadt des US-Bundesstaates Washington, ein Roman von Robert Neumann, ein Stadtteil von Helsingborg, eine Ausstellungshalle in London und und und…

… und auch der Künstlername der australischen Singer/Songwriterin und Multiinstrumentalistin Olivia Jayne Bartley. 

Nachdem die Künstlerin 2016 mit dem Album „Self Talk“ debütierte und Platz 26 der Charts in ihrer Heimat erreichte, folgt nun „Flamingo“, das seit Anfang Juli als Download, CD und Schallplatte (limited red heavyweight gatefold LP) erhältlich ist. Die 11 rockigen Pop-Songs entstanden in Kooperation mit dem Produzenten Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, Liam Finn, Jack Ladder) und würden in einer alternativen, besseren Welt im Radio rauf und runter laufen, wovon man sich am Besten anhand der Singles „Star City“, „Shoot To Forget“ und vor allem „Hounds“ selbst überzeugen kann: 

Across songs such as Hounds, Nervous Riders, Easy Pleasure, Shoot To Forget, First You Leave and the album title track, Flamingo, Olympia’s Flamingo flies in the face of fear and takes your hand gently but with daydream fervour held in belief that makes the listener understand they too can embrace the magnetic dance which unfolds as the flamingo delicately steps through the flame coloured water and sees the reflection in the once rippling tide, now still, and careful of the desire to shun society; to flock together with others and avoid the icy stare of predators who hunt for the decorative plumage that some will wear to show solidarity and the yearning to be free.
A wonderfully envisioned album, songs that remind what it means to hold on tight as the winds of change threaten to shift your viewpoint, but also one that adepts to the gentle twist when required. Flamingo stands firms and proud.
