No Joy - Ghost Blonde

Wer keine Freude an "Ghost Blonde" findet, sucht vermutlich kein zwischen Dreampop mit verhuschtem Frauengesang und noisigem Shoegaze zirkulierendes Album als Schnittmenge aus Lush und My Bloody Valentine.

No Joy sind Laura Lloyd und Jasamine White-Gluz aus Montreal und "Ghost Blonde", in dessen Produktion Sune Rose Wagner (The Raveonettes) involviert war, ist ihr Debütalbum, das am 16. November über Mexican Summer Records als CD und LP veröffentlicht wird.

It sorta makes sense the Best Coast-beloved No Joy fall between Nachtmystium and Pearl Harbor on Mexican Summer’s artists page. The Montreal/L.A. duo of Laura Lloyd and Jasamine White-Gluz mention “doom” (along with “psychedelic” and “shoegazer”) on their Bandcamp page and have played shows with Harvey Milk and Coalesce, but no, their noise-pop isn’t very metal: I’m talking a darker sensibility, the “you will die” in their promo photo, the title of their upcoming full-length Ghost Blonde, the idea of “No Joy” in and of itself. Take “Heedless” from Ghost Blonde. Maybe it’s a play on Sonic Youth’s “Ghost Bitch,” or something.
