Fast Romantics - American Love

Die erste Vorladung (III)

Personalien:

"I was falling pretty hard in love when we started the record. But the songs ended up being paintings of what it felt like to fall in love while the rest of the world went mad. The American election went bizarre and took over the Canadian one, everybody's obsession with social media hit some kind of peak, and suddenly everyone — everywhere — was talking about America. Smartphones were going off like bombs everywhere I went. It started seeping into the songwriting, and now I'm not even sure how to describe it. Is it a collection of love songs about politics or is it a collection of political songs about love?"

Zeugen:

It can be difficult to reconcile good and happy feelings in your own life, when the world at large is falling apart. What's great about American Love is love is not consumed by the problems of the world, but rather used as a source of determination and strength, like on "Why We Fight," with a synth/guitar riff right out of Springsteen's playbook. In fact, references to great American musicians are all over American Love, such as on "Radio Waves," a blissed-out Beach Boys number. The highlight of the album has got to be "Julia," a huge power pop jam with one of the catchiest choruses I've heard this year, as well as some amazing harmonies and Matthew Angus going full Costello on the bridge. In a time of uncertainty and fear, American Love is a welcome light in the darkness, and a nice reminder of the power of love.(Exclaim)

The sound throughout the album remains full-bodied, with rare dips into slower, more introspective sounding bridge sections during some tracks. The core of most songs come straight from the roots of rock music with tastefully distorted guitar and driving percussion delivered in almost every track on the album. Sporadic synth rhythms and the distinct ringing of bells and chimes round out the musical arsenal, adding an extra layer of sonic depth to the music. One caveat to American Light is that, if you are looking for variety, this album is lacking it in some ways. The sound, tone and tempo is more or less consistent throughout the entire album, so don’t go into it expecting a rollercoaster of musical changes.(beatroute)
