Cloud Boat - Model Of You

Das letzte Jahr erschienene Debüt-Album des Londoner Duos Cloud Boat ließ einen Teil der hiesigen Richter sehr ermüden. Das wollten Sam Ricketts und Tom Clarke dann wohl doch nicht so einfach auf sich sitzen lassen und schoben schnell den Nachfolger Model Of You hinterher, der im Vergleich zum Vorgänger sehr überrascht.

Es wundert also nicht, dass auch das zweite Album der beiden Produzenten sicher auch einige ihrer ersten Hörer und Hörerinnen vor den Kopf stoßen wird. Ein Jahr Zeit haben sich die beiden Londoner für das neue Album genommen und an dem getüftelt, was nun ihr Sound sein soll. Größer, reicher und epischer sollte es werden, das, was vorher bloß Fahrwasser war, tiefer, mitreißender und abenteuerlicher. (byte.fm)

'Model Of You' takes the duo’s established sound and ramps up the production, with brawnier drums and more prominent electronic loops. The extra oomph plays to their strengths, with Clarke’s sweeping vocals holding firm on the propulsive 'The Glow' and stunning synthetic workout 'Hallow'. (NME)

Closing track 'Hallow' is their longest to date, clocking in at seven minutes. Despite its length it is possibly the most efficiently effective song Cloud Boat have written to date, as it starts in muted gentle mode, and slowly builds through its extended running time. At the point when Clarke finally lets out all the tension you're right there with him, letting out the emotion that has been building not only in this song but in all the others preceding it. It's an impressive way to sign off their second album in as many years, and one that, along with the majority of the songs on the album, is likely to make them a much more striking live act.
