Crawlers - The Mess We Seem To Make

Beschließen wir das erste Halbjahr mit einem Album, das nicht mehr ganz taufrisch ist, denn „The Mess We Seem To Make“ wurde bereits am 16. Februar 2024 veröffentlicht.

Warum also heute das Debütalbum der Crawlers? Einerseits wurde es vom gestern erwähnten Pete Robertson (Orla Gartland, Beabadoobee, Linn Koch-Emmery) produziert, andererseits steht das Album bei Metacritic aktuell bei 89/100 Punkten. Hier sind einige Lobhudeleien:

And for all this is a sonically rich, musically accomplished record - and it truly is - it’s Holly’s enviably dextrous voice that can’t help but take centre stage. They can belt with the best of them: the rock stomp of ‘Hit It Again’ has it reaching a metallic roar, the chorus of the decidedly Weezer-indebted ‘What I Know Is What I Love’ has them belting out as if their life depended on it, ‘Better If I Just Pretend’ invokes ‘90s grunge ennui via their low-key delivery, while piano ballad and literal centrepiece ‘Golden Bridge’ flips the script entirely, with a turn that’s soft, subtle and jazzy; the wistfulness of Ellie Rowsell can be heard, the sadness of Billie Eilish’s whisper, even (dare we say it) the soar of Adele.

Perhaps most impressive is how this is a record destined to delight not just Crawlers’ fans – the affectionately named Creepy Crawlies – but pretty much anyone whose earways it happens to invade. The, ahem, crawl to superstardom is well underway.

Crawlers sind eine aus Liverpool stammende Alternative Rock-Band, die aus Molly Minto (Gesang, Gitarre), Amy Woodall (Gitarre), Liv May (Bass) und Harry Breen (Schlagzeug) besteht. 

2019 erschien mit „So Tired“ eine erste Single, der 2020 „Placebo“ folgte. 2022 veröffentlichte das Quartett zwei EPs mit insgesamt 11 Songs, die es alle nicht auf das Debütalbum schafften. Im Jahr danach erschienen „That Time Of Year Always“, „Messiah“ und „Would You Come To My Funeral“ als Singles. Zumindest der zuletzt genannte Song gehört zu dem Dutzend Liedern auf dem Album.
