Siv Jakobsen - A Temporary Soothing

 

Freunden des entspannten, eher schlicht gehaltenen Folks im Stile von Laura Marling, Ane Brun oder Lisa Hannigan können wir heute das zweite Album der 31-jährigen Singer/Songwriterin Siv Jakobsen empfehlen. 

Die Norwegerin veröffentlichte 2015 mit „The Lingering“ ihre erste EP, der zwei Jahre später das viel beachtete Debütalbum „The Nordic Mellow“ folgte. Nun hat sie 12 intime und sanfte Stücke komponiert und diese zusammen mit den Studiotüftlern Chris Bond (Ben Howard, Nick Mulvey) und Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, The Tallest Man On Earth, Waxahatchee) im Verlauf eines Jahres aufgenommen, wobei sich das Team immer wieder Zeit zwischen den Sessions ließ, um die Ergebnisse auf sich wirken zu lassen und den Klang über mehrere Soundschichten hinweg weiter zu entwickeln. Das Ergebnis dieses kreativen Prozesses trägt den Titel „A Temporary Soothing“.

 

 

‘Fight or Flight’ for example is Nordic Folk perfection. It is light, airy and icy in part whilst feeling homely. ‘Shine’ and single ‘Island’ are other excellent examples of this acoustic folk-rock vibe. They all have the potential to be huge hits. Elsewhere Siv channels her voice and the pulse of the music into more folktronica settings. Opener ‘Fear the Fear’ is dark and brooding. Each string and synth creating a haunting nightmare to crawl through. On the flipside ‘From Morning Made to Evening Laid’ explodes into a celebratory rapture for its finale. It feels joyous and full of life. Then there are the songs that feel hopeful and wistful simultaneously. ‘Anywhere Else’ uses violin and lilting oohs to tug at your heartstrings. At the same time, I want to sing proudly alongside Siv as she pushes forward. ‘Only Life’ shares a similar vibe whilst closer ‘I Call it Love’ seems to wrap up the rollercoaster we’ve been on with an affirmation and closing of the book with confidence and finality.
