The Belair Lip Bombs sind die erste australische Band, die von Third Man Records, dem Label von Jack White, unter Vertrag genommen wurde. Nachdem zuerst das Debütalbum „Lush Life“ (2023) neu aufgelegt wurde, erschien Ende Oktober dort auch dessen Nachfolger „Again“.
The Belair Lip Bombs sind auch die erste Band, die mir auf der Jahres-CD von Florian*, die sich auf Singles fokussiert, aufgefallen sind. Über die Qualität des Albums müssen wir dann hier verspätet beraten.
The Belair Lip Bombs sind Maisie Everett (Gesang, Gitarre, Keyboards) und ihre drei männlichen Mitstreiter Mike Bradvica (Gitarre), Daniel Devlin (Schlagzeug) und James Droughton (Bass). Durch die zehn zackigen Indierock- sowie melodiösen Powerpop-Songs hat sich das Quartett in 33 Minuten durchgespielt und sich somit nicht nur für Florians liebste Songs ’25 qualifiziert sondern vielleicht auch für Playlisten zwischen The Strokes und Rolling Blackout Coastal Fever, deren Joe (nicht Jack) White hier auch als Co-Produzent tätig war.
„Again“ ist als CD und LP (black Vinyl, Lobster red Vinyl, Sky Blue Vinyl) erhältlich.

Across 10 tracks, the band blends a slew of musical, cross-generational influences, from the Rolling Stones and Television to The War On Drugs and The Strokes. The Belair Lip Bombs are essentially genre agnostic, sounding like a pop band on one song and a distortion-heavy opener for Sonic Youth on another. It’s that refusal to stick to a single sound that makes Again such a compelling album. It’s not surprising that Jack White quickly snatched up the band for his Third Man Records here in the US.Again marks a strong evolution of the band’s sound, building on the foundation of 2023’s much-lauded Lush Life, without losing any of the experimentation or looseness that made that debut so impressive.
