You’ve probably heard English Teacher compared to Squid and Black Country, New Road, but there’s so much colour on the palette of this record than you may have thought. The moments of weight are always lifted by joyful and curious twists, the pathos by a human humour, and the mathier bits are never too wanky. ‘The Best Tears Of Your Life’ sees cyborg sounds and an orchestra totally in harmony, while the pure soulful balladry of ‘You Blister My Paint’ is a totally different approach to a tearjerker.‘I’m Not Crying, You’re Crying’ glistens like The Smiths’ ‘The Headmaster Ritual’ put through the prism of Jonny Greenwood as Fontaine rolls through a stream of consciousness of her doubts. The album centrepiece is the title track, however, as it carries that lightness of touch with its nursery rhyme feel before building into kaleidoscopic art-rock wig-out and drifting back down to earth. What a ride. What you have in ‘This Could Be Texas’ is everything you want from a debut; a truly original effort from start to finish, an adventure in sound and words, and a landmark statement.(NME)

Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department
Im Titeltrack singt sie selbstironisch an ihr Schreibmaschine schreibendes Gegenüber: „You’re not Dylan Thomas, I’m not Patti Smith, this ain’t the Chelsea Hotel, we’re modern idiots“, das ist popkulturelle Selbstverortung und „Bonny & Clyde“-Antizipierung zugleich.

Girl In Red - I’m Doing It Again Baby!
You Need Me Now, die letzte Vorab-Single, ist konstruiert als Hit.

The Libertines - All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade

The Reds, Pinks And Purples - Unwishing Well
On Unwishing Well, The Reds, Pinks & Purples deliver a much more intimate setting compared to last years The Town That Cursed Your Name. The tracks stay mellow but punchy with Donaldson’s lyrics that can just bring an instant rain cloud that we love!(…) “Your Worst Song is Your Greatest Hit” is a cutting commentary on the commercialization of music and the pressure to produce hits. Donaldson sings it with a true conviction that you know rings true with so many other artists. “Unwishing Well” is the title track that wrestles with wellness and wishes, reflecting on the sobering reality of skepticism. “Learning to Love a Band” explores obsessive fandom and the blurred lines between idolatry and isolation. “We Only Hear the Bad Things People Say” reflects on human fallibility and the tendency to dwell on negativity as Donaldson sings “In my dreams, you’re still shining.”

Feeder - Black/Red
Looking back on the album after listening to it, it feels almost impossible to talk about all the tracks. It’s one hell of a journey that never once leaves you feeling bored. Whilst the themes aren’t the most thought provoking you’ve ever heard, it’s a good fun guitar led album, and sometimes that’s all you need. It’s proof that FEEDER still have life in them. All the tracks compliment each other greatly and most importantly feel fresh, they’re able to go toe to toe with their best work such as Buck Rogers, Feeling A Moment and Just A Day.
The ’Black’ disc continues Torpedo’s hard-rocking renaissance, the tightly wound classic rock riffing of Playing With Fire and the expansive, cinematic landscape of ELF striking a charming juxtaposition with the irresistible pop rush of Hey You. ‘Red’ isn’t quite as heavy, but it’s just as intense, stuffed with Feeder’s ’00s trademark: melody-drenched, emotive alternative-rock anthems such as Sleeping Dogs Lie, Unconditional and Here Comes The Hurricane.(Kerrang)
Wehmütiger Dreampop und einlullender Soft Rock zum Sechsten. Tessa Murray (Gesang, Keyboards) und Greg Hughes (Gitarre, Bass, Keyboards) gri...
Still Corners - Dream Talk

James - Yummy
Yummy is all killer no filler and as we approach the end of the twelve track album, the quality of the tracks is as high as ever. (…)With nine studio albums under their belt since they reunited in 2007, James are more prolific than ever and Yummy cements their place as one of the most comercially and aristically – and most loved – alternative bands of their era. Unafraid of the unknown, they continue soaring to new heights of beauty and inspiration and their refusal to conform to societies expectations as to what a band of their longitude should he doing is commendable.
Yummy is the sound of a band refusing to rest on their laurels, in love with their creative process and looking forward rather than backwards. James still possess the ability to produce the anthems with which they made their name, and Yummy has moments where they hit that sweet spot, but across the twelve songs here they’re searching for deeper connections, both internally within the band and with their audience. Their expansion to a nine-piece has opened up new possibilities, particularly vocally with Alper on board, and that allows them to make a James record that sounds like a James record, but not like one they’ve made before.
