Unkle Bob - Embers

Die erste Vorladung (I)

Personalien:
Hinter Unkle Bob steckt der aus Schottland stammende Rick Webster.

Tathergang:
Juli.

Plädoyer:
Melancholischer und zumeist getragener Alternative Rock für Freunde von Snow Patrol, R.E.M., Travis oder Coldplay.

Zeugen:
Then over five days in early 2014, accepting Webster's invitation to record again, new and former bandmates reunited in a remote studio in Wales. The group breathed new life into one older studio demo and eight of Webster's new songs, resulting in the nine tracks comprising Embers.
The advance single, "It's Not Enough," is definitive UK in style, a veritable lovechild of influences along the lines of U2, Coldplay, Travis, and even poppy-yet-solemn hints of Morrissey.
Embers' mood is cool, rainy, and foggy, though the production and instrumentation plays crisp, bright, and clean. The album is beautiful—a multi-layered, wide landscape of sound.

In another universe, Rick Webster would be as famous as Chris Martin and Unkle Bob as big as Coldplay. (…)
For me, this is the best, most rounded Scots album released this year so far.
It starts with rain and a plaintive violin as All At Once blasts into view - Rick's earthy vocals, a banjo and a stadium-sized melody. But don't think it's going to be an album of cod folk like Mumford & Sons. Embers is next, a straight-up rocker with Rick's ear for a catchy ear worm and some nice piercing guitar.
If You Believe lowers the pace to a lanquid, lovelorn lurch as Rick promises "I'll wait for you". He then gets all Morrissey on lead single Not Enough. (…)
The album finishes with Lightning and is as fantastic as opener All At Once.
Stirring and a hypnotic beat will make sure the smile that you found on your face at the start of the album will continue all the way through to the end.
A fantastic album that deserves your ears.
